POL Price – Polygon Ecosystem Token (ex-MATIC) Live Info

POL (formerly MATIC) is the native cryptocurrency of the Polygon blockchain ecosystem. The current POL price is approximately $0.093–$0.10 USD. POL serves as the foundational token for all chains within the Polygon 2.0 multi-chain architecture.

POL is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, used for transaction fees, governance, and validator staking across all Polygon chains.

What is POL Token?

POL was introduced as part of Polygon's 2.0 vision — a major upgrade designed to transform Polygon from a single-chain scaling solution into a comprehensive multi-chain ecosystem. The migration from MATIC to POL began in September 2023 and is now 97.83% complete as of early 2026.

Unlike MATIC, which served primarily as a gas token for the Polygon PoS chain, POL has expanded utility: it validates multiple Polygon chains simultaneously, enables cross-chain governance participation, and supports the AggLayer — Polygon's unified liquidity and interoperability framework. This structural upgrade is widely viewed as a bullish fundamental shift.

POL Token Supply & Distribution

POL has a total supply of 10 billion tokens. The original MATIC distribution included: 16% to the team (subject to vesting), 23.33% sold in the 2019 Binance IEO and private sale, and the remainder distributed as staking rewards and ecosystem development funds. Under POL, additional inflationary mechanisms support validator rewards, but these are designed to be offset by token burn activity (as seen in early 2026 when burn activity surged alongside the January rally).

POL vs MATIC: Key Differences

MATIC: Single-chain utility, gas token for Polygon PoS, limited governance scope. POL: Multi-chain utility, validates all Polygon chains, expanded governance across the entire Polygon ecosystem, supports AggLayer interoperability. For price purposes, MATIC and POL are treated as equivalent during the migration window — 1 MATIC = 1 POL in the migration contract.
